How low can Oscar go?

From the Associated Press: "Nielsen Media Research says preliminary ratings for the 80th annual Academy Awards telecast are 14 percent lower than the least-watched ceremony ever." Ouch.

  1. Lower, I'm afraid. The show appeals to older viewers who may be turned off by the content of today's movies. And younger TV watchers likely don't care about who wins or loses. I do ... but I'm an exception, I bet. The efforts to appeal to a younger crowd, like having The Rock on stage and doing bits with iPods, likely had no impact. Perhaps a more aggressive marketing campaign next year could be helpful, but it also could lead to a dumbing down of the event.
