Philip Seymour Hoffman -- a great actor, an artist gifted with
astonishing range -- was
found dead today in New York, reportedly due to a drug overdose. And I must admit: My first thought was
this scene from Sidney Lumet's final feature,
Before the Devil Knows You're Dead. A movie I know I'll never be able to view again without thinking about a brilliant light extinguished all too soon.
By the way, I would prefer to always remember Hoffman for
this scene:
